How To Generate Your Motor Vehicle Fitness Certificate Online

Now that you have gone to the depot and completed your ‘fitness assessment’, it is time to generate your certificate online. You should have received an email with the details needed to generate the certificate. The details from that email will be needed.

If you haven’t paid for your fitness fee as yet, check out part 1 of this series. This is part 2 of a 2 part series.

Generating The Certificate

I received my email about 1 hour after completing the fitness assessment. The email below is what you should receive:

The certificate number can be found in the email I mentioned earlier. Your Motor Vehicle Chassis Number can be found on vehicle documents or on the previous Fitness Certificate. Now enter the Certificate Number and Chassis Number, then select Retrieve.

Enter Certificate and Chasis Number

If your Fitness Certificate was found, you should see the following screen:

Certificate Was Found

This means your certificate is ready for download. All you need to do is select ‘View Certificate’. Congratulations! You just generated your Motor Vehicle Fitness Certificate Online!

Wrap Up

This process was smooth from start to finish. If I exclude the time spent at the depo, this process took me less than 10 minutes.

Ensure that you carry a physical copy of your current fitness and the payment receipt to the Examination Depo. I recommend printing a copy of your motor vehicle registration and keeping it in the car. If you are interested in the Motor Vehicle Registration Process, check out my previous article here.

For any questions related to the fitness fee and validity period, you can check out my previous article here.

To wrap things up, you’ll find the complete set of notes from the Fitness Certificate attached below:

  • It is an offence to use on a public road any vehicle which is subjected to periodic test that does not have a current Certificate of Fitness. Therefore, a new Certificate must be obtained on or before the EXPIRY DATE of this Certificate if the vehicle is to continue in use on roads in Jamaica.
  • A new Certificate of Fitness may be obtained up to sixty (60) days prior to the expiry date of the current certificate.
  • Production of Certificate of Fitness may be required by the Police if the vehicle concerned is subjected to period testing. If you cannot produce your Certificate of Fitness within five (5) days you will be liable to an offence under the Road Traffic Act. A valid Certificate of Fitness must be produced when applying for a Licence for the vehicle.
  • A duplicate Certificate of Fitness can be obtained at the Island Traffic Authority upon presentation of the vehicle for inspection and payment of the association fees.
